Tissue Box using Antique Cloth from Lampung, Indonesia

Tissue Box Lampung

I bought a piece of Lampung textile from a local Singapore curios decor shop and the owner helped to convert it to a usable household item; a tissue box!
Textile arts have been prized in Asia for hundreds of years. Along the so-called Silk Roads—over land and sea—textiles were traded as currency and commodities in the premodern
world. On the large group of islands that make up the Indonesian archipelago, specially crafted textiles have played and continue to play significant roles in ceremonial events. They are used to wrap precious heirlooms, enclose or mark sacred spaces, and give visual prominence to important participants and leaders.
